The US business ecosystem is a dynamic, highly competitive landscape defined by robust capital access, intense innovation and opportunity, and a decentralized legal structure. With centres of development and innovation such as Silicon Valley and the booming Austin Startup Ecosystem, which has drawn over $8 billion in venture capital lately, it has become the birthplace of many innovation-based businesses.
Amazon, Netflix, Uber, Airbnb, just to name a few US-based companies, were pioneers in each of their sectors. Even as Amazon expands into a digital-based company with versatile services, and Netflix shifts from physical media rental into a subscription-based digital platform, a supportive, growing ecosystem develops along with these businesses.
Angin Dampak Jaya collaborates with @america Jakarta to bring you the second Melting Pot of the year, “Turn Your Passion into Opportunity.” This collaboration is the fruit of the labor of the INTRA Institute team, raising the notion of how businesses, especially American-based startups, start as passion projects.

The Melting Pot invited aspiring individuals who aim to turn campus initiatives and side projects into real-world businesses using foundational business principles. The Melting Pot program is under INTRA Institute (Impact Investment and Entrepreneurship Knowledge Generator), Angin Dampak Jaya’s knowledge generator sub-unit that aims to deepen understanding of entrepreneurship, investment, and ecosystem development across Indonesia.
Panel Discussion with Seasoned Founders on Venture Opportunity

The first session of the event was a 45-minute discussion on the related topic: how to turn your solutive or profitable ideas into a business venture.
The session featured Anisa Azizah, Alumnus of YSEALI Professional Fellows Program 2024, Founder of ReservoAir, and Investment Manager of Angin Dampak Jaya (previously ANGIN Advisory/ANGIN Foundation), and Randy Budi Wicaksono, Chairman & Founder of Ravelware Technology. Moderated by Andika Fadhilah, an alumnus of YSEALI Creators Co-Lab 2025, the session dug deep into what it actually looks like to go from an idea or small project to something with real traction, without waiting for the perfect moment, the right degree, or enough money.
In addition, the session also featured Anisa’s two interconnected perspectives of being a founder and, later, an investment manager. She noted that social innovations can be turned into many forms, including business opportunities. However, initiatives turned businesses, as impactful as they are, still need to generate revenue to be sustainable due to their nature.
The session also granted Randy Budi Wicaksono the opportunity to share his inspiring story as a founder. Through hardship and limited resources, his graphene research enabled him to build Ravelware Technology, now an established enterprise with numerous partners.
Case Study Workshop from US-Based Enterprises
The second session of the event was a hands-on group workshop that aimed to analyze best practices from the US and imagine how we can translate said ideas in Indonesia. Participants were divided into groups of four, where they would discuss potential business ventures based on a predetermined time period and location-contextual setup, US-based corporations as inspiration, targeted early adopters, and unique selling points based on a strategic market target.

The session was a lively and active discussion, with teams drawing inspiration from companies such as Netflix and Airbnb. Then, selected groups pitched their business idea onstage. The panel then briefly gave feedback to realign perspectives on their business venture.

An Idea That Turned into a Venture
A simple idea can very well turn into a life-changing business venture, impacting more than just one or two people.
This edition of the Melting Pot went beyond insight-sharing conversations. It became an opportunity to broaden perspectives, connect with like-minded people, and observe opportunities for turning reseach/academic-based ideas into a startup enterprise.
